Gallery 1957 is set to present an expansive group exhibition, ‘Constellations Part 2: Figures in Webs and Ripples of Space,’ co-curated by Nuna Adisenu-Doe, Tracy Naa Koshie Thompson, and Katherine Finerty. This highly anticipated showcase is the second installment of a sister-city exhibition series between Gallery 1957’s locations in London and Accra. The exhibition will open on August 1st at 6 PM on the Third Floor of Galleria Mall, Kempinski Hotel Accra.
‘Constellations Part 2’ builds on the themes explored in the first part, ‘Figures on Earth & Beyond,’ which took place in London earlier this year. The exhibition delves into concepts of floating figures and spatial dynamics, challenging our human tendency to place ourselves at the center of existence. The curators have orchestrated a unique narrative that disrupts conventional notions of belonging and place, encouraging viewers to reconsider their place in the cosmos.
The exhibition features an impressive roster of artists, many of whom are collaborating with Gallery 1957 for the first time. The diverse lineup includes Clifford Bright Abu, Abdul-Salam Alhassan, Akosua Odeibea Amoah-Yeboah, Dela Anyah, Dzidzor Azaglo, Elolo Bosoka, Jasper Dafeamekpor, Rosemary Esinam Damalie, Victor Ehikhamenor, Samuel Baah Kortey, Rebekka Macht, Afrane Makof, Putin Ofori, Frederick Ebenezer Okai, Na Chainkua Reindorf, Ghizlane Sahli, and Nyahan Tachie-Menson. Long-term collaborator Jonathan Okoronkwo will also be featured, alongside returning artists from ‘Constellations Part 1,’ including Lois Selasie Arde-Acquah, Phoebe Boswell, Adelaide Damoah, Denyse Gawu-Mensah, Henry Hussey, Sarah Meyohas, and Lisa C Soto.
The exhibition’s theme of interconnectedness will be reflected in the art on display, as the curators and artists explore how figures exist within webs of relationships and the rippling effects of their presence in various spaces. The collaboration between the London and Accra galleries enriches this exploration, offering a cross-continental dialogue that enhances the global conversation about identity, belonging, and the human experience.
Join Gallery 1957 for the opening reception of ‘Constellations Part 2 – Figures in Webs and Ripples of Space’ and immerse yourself in a thought-provoking exploration of space, place, and interconnectedness. The exhibition promises to be a captivating experience, challenging viewers to look beyond the familiar and embrace a more expansive understanding of their place in the world.
