Years of Culture, a program fostering long-term cultural exchanges, has designated the Kingdom of Morocco as its 2024 partner, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between Qatar and Morocco. Over 80 events are slated to take place throughout the year, aiming to deepen cultural understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
Diplomatic ties between Qatar and Morocco date back to 1972, and their collaboration has since extended across various sectors, contributing to shared economic growth and regional stability. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ served as a testament to the robust diplomatic rapport between the two countries, highlighting the strength of their bilateral relationship.
Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Years of Culture, emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating, “Our partnership in 2024 with the Kingdom of Morocco will be the first Year of Culture that Qatar celebrates one-on-one with a North African country, bringing together two nations that share profound ties.”
Adel El Fakir, Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture General Commissioner, echoed this sentiment, noting that the initiative presents a unique opportunity to showcase Morocco’s rich cultural heritage to Qatar and the world, while reinforcing the strong bonds between the two nations.
Years of Culture, launched in 2012 under the guidance of Sheikha Al Mayassa, facilitates cultural exchanges through art exhibitions, festivals, educational partnerships, and more. The Qatar-Morocco 2024 program will feature a diverse range of events, including photography exhibitions, artisan residencies, culinary experiences, and sporting events, providing ample opportunities for cultural exploration and collaboration.
The Design Doha biennial, a flagship event under Years of Culture, will also incorporate collaborations with Moroccan designers, further enriching the exchange of creative ideas and innovation within the Arab world.
