Lagos is set to transform into a sprawling, open-access cultural corridor as Lagos Gallery Weekend (LGW) returns for its 2026 edition with an ambitious and resonant theme: “Art for All.” Building on the momentum of its landmark previous outing—which welcomed over 10,000 visitors—the citywide festival reaffirms its mission to make contemporary art accessible, navigable, and deeply rooted in everyday urban life.
Organised as a coordinated, multi-day celebration across key neighbourhoods, Lagos Gallery Weekend positions art not as a gated experience, but as a public good—woven into the streets, histories, architectures, and communities of Nigeria’s cultural capital.

A City Activated by Art
From Ikoyi and Victoria Island to Lekki, Yaba, Ikeja, and Lagos Island, LGW 2026 turns the city into a living exhibition. Over four days, galleries, museums, and cultural institutions open their doors simultaneously, encouraging audiences to move through Lagos at their own pace or via carefully curated routes.
At the heart of this experience is the official LGW digital platform, designed as both a planning tool and cultural guide. The website serves local audiences and international visitors alike, offering event schedules, gallery information, shuttle routes, insider recommendations, and booking access for tours and programmes—effectively functioning as a gateway into Lagos’s complex but rewarding art ecosystem.

“Art for All”: A Defining Vision
The 2026 theme, Art for All, is both a statement and a strategy. It reflects LGW’s commitment to dismantling long-standing perceptions of art as elitist or inaccessible, instead positioning creativity as a shared cultural inheritance and a vital part of civic life.
Through free public access, youth-focused workshops, educational programming, and curated city tours, LGW expands its reach beyond collectors and insiders to include families, students, first-time gallery visitors, and communities often excluded from formal art spaces.
The LGW Hub: A Cultural Anchor
Serving as the festival’s primary physical touchpoint is the LGW Hub at Alliance Française de Lagos / Mike Adenuga Centre in Ikoyi. More than a meeting point, the hub operates as an educational marketplace—housing workshops, talks, a pop-up art library, and direct access to the LGW team.
It is also the central departure point for shuttles and guided routes, reinforcing its role as both an information centre and a communal gathering space during the weekend.
Insider Routes: Navigating Lagos from Within
A major highlight of the 2026 edition is the introduction of Insider Routes—curated journeys through the city designed by artists, curators, designers, and cultural practitioners deeply embedded in Lagos’s art scene.
Rather than prescribing a single path, these routes offer multiple lenses through which to experience the city:
- Contemporary mastery and established voices
- Emerging and experimental practices
- Historical, architectural, and cultural legacies
Each route blends galleries with cultural landmarks, neighbourhood rhythms, and personal insights, allowing visitors to build a more intimate relationship with the city.
Sound, Memory, and Cross-Disciplinary Exchange
In a special collaboration with Cultural Custodian, LGW 2026 introduces an immersive programme examining the intersections of Nigerian art, design, and music history. Through sound-based experiences and editorial storytelling, the project explores how visual culture, rhythm, and memory co-exist and shape collective identity—extending the festival beyond exhibitions into lived, multisensory narratives.

Carefully curated weekend routes allow visitors to move seamlessly between architecture, art spaces, and neighbourhood landmarks, reinforcing the city itself as an exhibition site.
