Loft Art Gallery, with spaces in Casablanca and Marrakech, is proud to present Homesick, a solo exhibition featuring 20 new works by celebrated Moroccan-Belgian photographer Mous Lamrabat. This highly anticipated exhibition, on view at the gallery’s Marrakech location from January 30 to March 15, 2025, coincides with the renowned 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in Marrakech.
Born in 1983, Mous Lamrabat is internationally recognized for his distinctive portraiture that bridges the gap between tradition and modernity. His art reflects a rich dialogue between his Moroccan heritage and his diasporic experiences, presenting a unique blend of cultural codes and contemporary aesthetics. Through his evocative photographs, Lamrabat masterfully intertwines symbols of Moroccan identity with elements of global pop culture, creating works that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.
A Journey Through ‘Homesick’
The exhibition Homesick delves into Lamrabat’s emotional connection to Morocco, offering a poignant exploration of identity, belonging, and the complexities of navigating dual cultural worlds. Through his lens, the artist captures moments that reflect his longing for his homeland, presenting visual narratives that resonate with themes of nostalgia and hope.
One recurring motif in Homesick is the Moroccan star, a powerful national symbol. For Lamrabat, it acts as a visual bridge between his memories of Morocco and his present reality abroad. This recurring element anchors his works, linking the universal human experience of homesickness to the specific cultural and emotional ties he has with Morocco.
Each image in Homesick invites viewers into Lamrabat’s world, offering intimate glimpses of his journey. The photographs reflect a love for his homeland, a desire to preserve its essence, and an artistic vision that celebrates both heritage and innovation.
