Kampala’s Open Studio returns on 30 August 2026, bringing DROOP Canvas’s evolving programme of art, performance and creative exchange to The Emin Pasha Hotel in Nakasero.
Rather than operating as a conventional exhibition, Open Studio has developed around participation. Previous editions have combined pop-up exhibitions and live painting with workshops, poetry, artist conversations, music and other forms of cultural programming, placing artists and audiences within the same social environment.
Organised by DROOP Canvas, the initiative forms part of a growing network of artist-led spaces and events reshaping how contemporary art is encountered in Kampala. Earlier editions were staged at venues including Huma Cafe and The White Pala’ti, while an April 2026 edition at The Emin Pasha Hotel continued the programme’s expansion across the city.
The model is deliberately porous: part exhibition, part gathering and part creative laboratory. Across its first eight editions, Open Studio reportedly attracted more than 1,500 visitors, suggesting an appetite for cultural formats that sit outside the formal architecture of galleries and museums.
The next Open Studio takes place on Sunday, 30 August 2026, from 12pm at The Emin Pasha Hotel, Nakasero, Kampala. Tickets are UGX 20,000, with ticketing available through KariTickets.
