British-Nigerian designer Yinka Ilori has transformed the iconic Eros fountain at Piccadilly Circus in central London with his latest public art installation, Good Things Come to Those Who Wait. The installation, created in collaboration with Art of London, aims to spread a positive message in one of the city’s busiest junctions.

The artwork features two bright orange, curved plinths made from perforated metal, each topped with a winged horse – a nod to Pegasus from Greek mythology. The seven-meter-high plinths partially enclose the 19th-century Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, commonly known as the Eros fountain, on the southeastern side of Piccadilly Circus. Ilori’s use of vivid colors and mythical references is intended to evoke feelings of joy, connectivity, and optimism.

“Storytelling is the heartbeat of my work,” Ilori shared in a statement. “Every project of mine is inspired by a story, and this installation is no different. Through this piece, I wanted to bring people together, inspire optimism, and create a space for connection and engagement.”

Adorned with affirmations like “dream with love” and “protect your dreams” in bright yellow text, the installation showcases Ilori’s custom typeface, Yinka Sans Ultra, designed by British Standard Type. The affirmations, central to Ilori’s work, invite visitors to walk around the structure and experience a poetic journey.

The installation also draws inspiration from Greek mythology, with the winged horses symbolizing Pegasus. Ilori’s fascination with folklore led him to blend Greek and Nigerian mythological elements, connecting cultural narratives through his vibrant design.

“I’ve always believed art and design should be free and accessible to all,” Ilori explained. “Watching children and families interact with the installation brings me joy. I hope it sparks a sense of wonder and positivity for everyone who visits.”

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait will be on display at Piccadilly Circus until the end of the month, offering Londoners and visitors a unique opportunity to engage with Ilori’s colorful world of art and storytelling.
