In a dazzling celebration of contemporary art, the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) has announced its collaboration with the renowned South African artist Athi-Patra Ruga for its highly anticipated Gala event on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

The Gala, a centerpiece of Cape Town Art Week and a highlight of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, will feature the captivating works of Athi-Patra Ruga, whose art intricately weaves myth with contemporary issues, offering a unique perspective on the post-apartheid era. Ruga’s creations present alternative identities, serving as a satirical commentary on prevailing political and social norms.

Notable is the generous contribution from South African artist Cinga Samson in support of Zeitz MOCAA’s curatorial and education programs.

The Gala, emceed by renowned South African model and businesswoman Jo-Ann Strauss, promises an uplifting evening with exclusive performances by Simphiwe Dana and Nobuhle Ashanti. Proceeds from the auction contribute to funding Zeitz MOCAA’s essential curatorial and education initiatives.

The event will also witness the presentation of the Zeitz MOCAA Honorary Awards for Artistic Excellence and Philanthropic Achievement, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the art ecology in Africa.

The Gala serves as a unique convergence of private philanthropy and corporate social responsibility, supporting one of Africa’s leading art institutions. A special invite-only Collateral Program for VIP guests, curated by Koyo Kouoh, Zeitz MOCAA Executive Director and Chief Curator, will run from February 10 to 15. This program will bring together significant art collectors, museum directors, and influential figures in the global arts industry to engage with the local art scene.
